Project Description:      El Mercado was designed to be reminiscent of the central market squares found in Latin American towns.  Developed in partnership with Carlos Lopez, owner of Luis of Hartford, the project involved extensive planning and design work.  The project was Broad-Park’s first major economic development effort.  After several years operation, management control was turned over to Luis of Hartford.  El Mercado, an anchor on Park Street , draws Latinos from all over the region to the area.  It houses specialty food vendors, a large bodega, a jewelry store and a long distance telephone provider.

Composition:    One 12,000 square feet retail commercial building containing a variety of retail tenants

Completion:  1991
